High up on anyone’s wishlist of ‘things I want to find in Space Marine 2‘ are brutal enemies, challenging missions, and badass suits. Well, by the grace of the Emperor, today’s new update brings all of those things and more. Space Marine 2 Patch 5 has arrived, and alongside some jaw-dropping paid cosmetics, the offering of Operations maps expands with a free new mission.
While in most games new cosmetics are rarely the main focus of a big content update, one could argue that the new Dark Angels Chapter Pack is the headline addition in today’s Space Marine 2 patch. The Dark Angels is one of the coolest divisions of the Space Marines and fans of the best Warhammer 40k games will be more than happy to see the release of an imposing, beautifully-detailed armor set for the Bulwark class. Alongside this armor set, new Dark Angels visuals for the Auto Bolt Rifle, Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, and the Shield are also included in the new pack.
On the topic of looking good, a new customization option arrives that lets you pick from 15 lens colors for your Space Marine’s helmet visor. If you want some piercing, evil-looking red eyes or just want a tint that complements your armor color, you’ve now got the freedom to do make it.
However, Patch 5 isn’t just skin deep. A new PvE map for the Operations mode called Obelisk has been added, which has an interesting tie-in with the events of Space Marine 2’s main story, as it takes place “in parallel to the final events of the campaign.”
Standing in your way in this Operation is a new enemy among the Chaos’ ranks: the Tzaangor Enlightened. This is a Majoris-tier opponent, rather than some easily-eradicated space bug, so expect a fairly tough battle against them. It’s not just in Obelisk where the Tzaangor Enlightened will appear, either – any existing Operation featuring Chaos enemies will now include them.
There are also numerous tweaks and rebalances for weapons, melee, and blocking, and the Fall of Atreus Operation has been adjusted to make it shorter, in line with the lengths of other missions. Saber has published a long list of bug fixes and small quality-of-life changes.
Space Marine 2 Patch 5 is live right now. It’s a great update full of brilliant free gameplay additions and those stunning new cosmetic items, and is part of Space Marine 2’s long-term roadmap of post-launch support.
